February 23, 2016 (Cleveland, OH) – PBS announced that it will launch new, free localized 24/7 children’s services later this year. The free services include a new TV channel and live stream on digital platforms.

WVIZ/PBS ideastream applauds this new service and will look into its application to further serve Northeast Ohio children. Currently, WVIZ/PBS airs 12 hours each weekday of educational children’s programs and offers a variety of formal education-based opportunities to Northeast Ohio teachers, students, caregivers and young children. The WVIZ/PBS offerings range from professional development sessions to online courses for teachers, and from interactive distance learning classes to hands-on educational opportunities for early childhood educators and caregivers.

The proposed services from PBS would allow for the broadcast of PBS KIDS shows 24 hours a day on an additional television channel. Viewers would also have access to a live stream of educational children’s programs through pbskids.org and on the PBS KIDS Video App, which is available on a variety of mobile devices, tablets and over-the-top platforms, such as Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV , Xbox One and Chromecast. The live stream complements on-demand clips and full episodes, which will continue to be available for free on the PBS KIDS Video App and streaming via pbskids.org.

“WVIZ/PBS has been an integral part of the community for years, delivering content and services that parents trust.  We look forward to learning more about the services being offered by PBS to better understand how they can complement the range of educational programs and services WVIZ/PBS currently presents to the Northeast Ohio community,” said Jerry Wareham, ideastream President and CEO.
