February 4, 2016 (Cleveland, OH) – Violins of Hope: Strings of the Holocaust, narrated by Academy Award-winner Adrien Brody, is a documentary featuring Israeli violinmaker Amnon Weinstein and his efforts to restore violins recovered from the Holocaust. Some were played by Jewish prisoners in concentration camps; others belonged to the Klezmer musical culture, which was all but destroyed by the Nazis. From their amazing stories and Weinstein’s mission to collect and restore the instruments comes the inspiration for this one-hour documentary, which premieres Monday, Feb. 8 at 9 p.m. on WVIZ/PBS and will be offered to PBS member stations nationwide.
“It was my honor to help share this incredible story and a reminder of tremendous loss, and even greater hope,” said Adrien Brody.
Violins of Hope: Strings of the Holocaust airs again on WVIZ/PBS as follows: Friday, Feb. 12 at 10 p.m.; Sunday, Feb. 14 at 3 a.m. and 3 p.m.; and Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 5 a.m.
Generous support for this WVIZ/PBS ideastream production was provided by contributors to the ideastream Campaign for Community and the donors for Violins of Hope Cleveland. More at violinsofhopecle.org.
