13:00 TOLL BROTHERS METROPOLITAN OPERA RADIO NETWORK with Debra Lew Harder
The Metropolitan Opera’s 2021-22 season of live Saturday matinee broadcasts concludes with Stravinsky’s captivating morality tale The Rake’s Progress. It stars tenor Ben Bliss as Tom Rakewell, an ambitious but lazy young man. Bass-baritone Christian Van Horn is the diabolical Nick Shadow, who seems to offer him a shortcut to life’s pleasures. Soprano Golda Schultz is Ann Trulove, whose virtue and courage may be Tom’s only hope for salvation. And mezzo-soprano Raehann Bryce-Davis makes her network broadcast debut as Baba the Turk, the bearded lady. Susanna Mälkki conducts the Met Orchestra and Chorus in Stravinsky’s brilliant neoclassical score.
