1841 At a fund-raising concert in Paris for the Beethoven monument in Bonn, Franz Liszt performed the ‘Emperor’ Concerto with Hector Berlioz conducting, and Richard Wagner reviewed the concert for the Dresden Abendzeitung; the following day, Frédéric Chopin gave one of his rare recitals at the Salle Pleyel, and Franz Liszt wrote a glowing review for the Parisian Gazette Musicale.

1881 premiere of Gilbert & Sullivan's Patience at the Opera Comique, London; after it moved to the Savoy Theater on October 10th it was the first theatrical production in the world to be lit entirely by electric light.

1926 premiere of Giacomo Puccini's Turandot at La Scala, Milan, conducted by Arturo Toscanini; the opera was unfinished at the time of Puccini's death in 1924, and was completed by Franco Alfano.

1961 Truls Mørk – Norwegian cellist (63 years old); his interest in chamber music led to the foundation of the International Chamber Music Festival of Stavanger.
