A change in leadership at The Cleveland Institute of Art

Nestled in Cleveland's cultural district 'University Circle' - often overshadowed by the world-class assets of the Cleveland Museum of Art, The Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals, Case Western Reserve University, and the Museum of Natural History -- is another institution that's been in the city for 135 years.

The location -and- name have changed several times during that time, but the purpose --- educating and training the next generation of artists --- has remained the same for the Cleveland Institute of Art.

C-I-A as it is often called holds a prestigious reputation among art and design colleges - attracting students from across the globe.

The student to faculty ratio at the school stands near 10:1, which is impressive for any college.

But the school is also undergoing a change at the top, with new leadership stepping in.

And as higher education institutions continue to deal with shifting needs, income, and assets due to the coronavirus pandemic, and look towards an uneasy economic future -- what does the future hold for an art school?

Today on the Sound of Ideas, we discuss the history and future of the Cleveland Institute of Art with the outgoing President Grafton Nunes, and incoming President Kathryn Heidemann, who takes over at the end of the week.
