Memorial Day is coming up. It's a time for us to honor the men and women who have died, while serving the country. But it's also a good reminder for communities to take care of the veterans who are still living among us, who may need help with healthcare, housing, unemployment, meal assistance, or, just want to feel a sense of community.
According to 2016 Census Bureau data, there are almost 780,000 veterans in the state, with more than 35% having served in Vietnam. 15% of the state's veterans have a service-connected disability. There are also almost 900 veterans in the state who are homeless.
On The Sound of Ideas, we'll start by talking with about resources that are out there to help.
Then, are you coughing and sneezing more this year? ideastream's Health Reporter Lisa Ryan gets to the bottom of why allergies may be worse this spring compared to last.
Later, we'll hear the musical stylings of a Brazilian jazz duo. It's the next in our Applause Performances series.
