[RICK] This week's A+ recipients at Pattison Elementary School in Milford are all about helping the environment. Good job, Pattison. They recently purchased a sorting table for their cafeteria. When students finish their lunches, they divide their waste and choose whether it will be composted, recycled, or sent to a landfill. It's part of a plan to minimize the school's impact on the environment. The sorting table has helped cut down the number of trash bags that go to landfills from 60 per week to 15, wow, good job. Fourth-grade teacher Deanne O’Toole says that the school's goal is to only make two bags of landfill garbage a day by Earth Day. In addition to making the school greener, it also saves the district money on all those trash pickups. Students are encouraged to find new ways to make less waste like not using plastic straws and packing their lunch in reusable containers.
