Our A+ this week goes to a group of star students who combined their business savvy and baking skills to help those in need. Old Trail School in Bath hosted its annual craft fair and bake sale back on March 20th. Every 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade student was involved from making the goods to staffing the tables at the event.
The wares included inventive crafts like bird feeders, magnets, finger puppets, jewelry, and tasty treats like cake pops, cupcakes, and more. The fair is part for the Junior Achievement Program which teaches students the business of life including work, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy.
Audrey says that she liked the Junior Achievement Program because she learned a lot about business, “We talked about money to determine if you would make a profit or have a loss.”
Well this year, they definitely had a profit of almost $5,000! Each year students choose a different organization to receive the money, and this year it went to BuildOn. That's a non-profit that runs after school programs and other services for schools in need throughout the country.
James said, “I felt really good about being able to help BuildOn because they help people have access to schools. It also felt good to spend money on the craft fair knowing that the money would go to something that matters and not just buying more stuff for ourselves.”
Congratulations Old Trail 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders! For your hard work and dedicated generosity, we're awarding you this week's NewsDepth A+!
