THE GOVERNMENT HAS NEW GUIDELINES FOR USING SUNSCREEN. THE U.S. PREVENTATIVE TASK FORCE RECENTLY UPDATED ITS RECOMMENDATIONS, SAYING THAT EVEN BABIES AS YOUNG AS 6 MONTHS OLD SHOULD BE USING SUNSCREEN EVERY DAY. THE TASK FORCE SAYS CHILDREN AND TEENS EXPOSED TO THE SUN'S HARMFUL UV RAYS ARE AT GREATER RISK FOR DEVELOPING SKIN CANCER AS ADULTS.

THE GUIDELINES ARE ESPECIALLY CRITICAL FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE YOUNGER THAN THE AGE OF 24 AND HAVE FAIR-SKIN, FRECKLES AND A FAMILY HISTORY OF SKIN CANCER.

TOO MUCH SUN PLUS RUNNING AROUND CAN ALSO CAUSE HEAT EXHAUSTION OR HEAT CRAMPS. THAT'S WHEN YOU FEEL SICK OR WEAK OR NAUSEOUS FROM BEING OVER HEATED. MAKE SURE YOU DRINK ENOUGH.

NOW, WATER IS A GOOD FORM OF PREVENTION, PREVENTION OF COURSE MEANING STOPPING SOMETHING FROM HAPPENING. THE SUDA RECOMMENDS THAT CHILDREN 4 TO 8 YEARS OLD HAVE 7 CUPS OF WATER EACH DAY, AND THAT 9 TO 13 YEAR OLDS HAVE NINE TO 10 CUPS EACH DAY.

NOW, SOME OF THIS WATER CAN COME FROM FOOD, LIKE MELONS OR CUCUMBERS, BUT JUST MAKE SURE YOU'RE STAYING HYDRATED.

NOW, ONE MORE THING TO BE ON THE LOOK OUT FOR IN THE SUMMER: BITING BUGS. ACCORDING TO THE CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL AND PREVENTION, INFECTIONS FROM TICKS, MOSQUITOES AND FLEAS HAVE TRIPLED JUST SINCE 2004.

THESE INFECTIONS INCLUDE NEW GERMS AND NEW VIRUSES, LIKE ZIKA FROM MOSQUITOES. SO TO KEEP THE BUGS AT BAY, USE BUG SPRAY, AND MAKE SURE YOU'RE WEARING LONG SLEEVES AND PANTS, ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE HIKING THROUGH THE WOODS OR SOME TALL GRASSES.

OH, AND DON'T FORGET TO CHECK YOUR PETS FOR TICKS TOO.
