AND OF COURSE BEFORE WE GO WE’VE GOT OUR A PLUS TO HAND OUT…. THIS WEEK WE’D LIKE TO RECOGNIZE A PAIR OF STUDENTS WHO DECIDED TO DO SOME GOOD WHILE THEY WERE OFF FROM SCHOOL.
ELISE TONG AND MADDIE EVERS, FROM MASON INTERMEDIATE, DECIDED TO COLLECT TOYS FOR THE KIDS AT CINCINNATI CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL; IN ORDER TO MAKE THE HOLIDAYS A LITTLE HAPPIER FOR THE YOUNG PATIENTS THERE.
THE IDEA DEVELOPED AS PART OF AN ASSIGNMENT TO DO SOME “PERSONAL LEARNING” ON ANY TOPIC THEY WANTED, WHILE THEY WERE AT HOME DURING A TEACHER WORKDAY.
ELISE AND MADDIE LEARNED THAT THERE WOULD BE MANY THOUSANDS OF KIDS IN THE HOSPITAL OVER THE HOLIDAY SEASON, AND SO THEY DECIDED TO TAKE THE ASSIGNMENT TO THE NEXT LEVEL!
THEY HELD A COOKIE SALE TO RAISE MONEY, WHICH WAS VERY SUCCESSFUL – THEY EARNED 175 DOLLARS! THEY ALSO SOLD SOME OF THEIR OWN OLD TOYS THAT THEY NO LONGER USED, IN ORDER TO RAISE MORE CASH.
THE GIRLS HELD TOY DRIVES AROUND TOWN AND, WHEN THEY GOT BACK TO SCHOOL, ASKED THEIR CLASS TO HELP OUT TOO.
THEIR TEACHER, CHRISTINE WORK, TELLS US THAT THE CLASS WORKED HARD TO FULFILL THEIR REQUEST, AND SAYS SHE FEELS HONORED TO BE THEIR TEACHER.
MS. WORK HOPES OTHER PEOPLE WILL HEAR THIS STORY AND WANT TO DO SOMETHING THAT INSPIRES SOMEONE ELSE!
WELL WE HOPE SO TOO, BECAUSE WE ARE SURE FEELING INSPIRED. THAT’S WHY WE’RE GIVING ELISE TONG AND MADDIE EVERS THIS WEEK’S NEWSDEPTH A PLUS.
