NEWSDEPTH QUESTION OF THE WEEK: In which type of school would you learn best – a Traditional school, an Online school, or a combination of both? Be sure to tell us why you chose this type of school.
Joshua, Maryland Elementary: Last week you guys talked about if I would choose to go to online school or normal school. I think that schools should use both for a couple reasons. The first reason is that if there is a snow day, schools will have to make up the day at the end of the school year and that means an extra day. If all the kids have the available resources, kids should go online and take a few lessons to make up that school day. Another reason is if kids are sick and not available to go to school, they should follow a part of the class with an online worksheet. They should not only do online school because kids will not have any social skills and that is a very important skill in life.
Emily, Waynesfield Goshen Elementary: I chose schools both ways, because I love coming to school and seeing all my friends, but I hate having to get up super early every morning and having to get ready. With online school I can just wake up whenever. I would love to only have to go to school some days and have online the rest.
Janie, Claggett Middle School: If I had to choose between a traditional school and an online school I would not choose. I would want a combination of both because, sometimes computers are wrong and they do not explain things very well and that is why I would want a real teacher. Sometimes teachers are not the best either. Some teachers are not very good at explaining things and that makes you not know what to do. A computer is also great because if you are writing a paper and you don't want to write a lot you can just type it in and send it to your teacher.
Alyssa, St. Peter School: I prefer the traditional classroom over learning online, because I enjoy interacting with my friends throughout the school day. I learn from them. I like having contact with my teacher face to face. I would get distracted too easily if I tried online schooling.
Maya, Maryland Elementary:
There are many more ways to learn then just one,
Online, in a classroom there all so much fun!
When learning I prefer in a class to do it
But others may think there is not much to it!
For learning there's not just one thing you can do,
I love the classroom...
But what about you?
Payton, Ayer Elementary: If I had a choice on going to a virtual school or a normal school or the option of doing both I would go to the one with both. I love going to normal school, but I like how we get to use websites and how we get our own computers. I also like how we get to hang out with our friends at school.
Raegan, Ford Intermediate: I was very interested about Proxima B. I thought it was so cool that there is a planet so similar to earth. I wish it was closer to earth so we can explore it better and know more about it but it is 70 thousand years or 4.25 light years away. I hope that someday we will have the technology to send astronauts and rovers to Proxima B. When I grow up I want to be an astronomer at NASA.
Amanda, Ayer Elementary: I loved your story on the history of Cleveland! I have always been interested in anything that has to do with Ohio history. To answer your question, I would want a mix school, half traditional, half online. I like having a teacher in the classroom because you have someone to ask questions to if you have a problem. I also like having part of my school online. I like to use technology in class because with it I can make cool projects and find a lot of info on one topic.
Caitlyn, Chagrin Falls Intermediate: I was amazed about the "new earth" planet! I can't believe that there is another planet that might actually be able to sustain life. Even though would take a really, really, really, long time to get there. I wonder what it would be like to actually live on that planet. I also think that having a combination of virtual and non-virtual school would be the perfect solution. This is because I think that kids should have contact with the outside world, and not just focused on a computer screen. However, they should also be allowed to move at their own pace on the computers
Joy, Maryland Elementary: I really liked your article on 9/11. When I went to see it when I was little, I thought it was going to be boring, like just another monument. It turned out to be really interesting. 9/11 was one of the saddest times in my parents’ lives. I really didn’t understand, I thought there were just a bunch of names on a wall for the police. Before I watched the video, I didn’t really understand. Watching your video made me realize how sad and meaningful 9/11. I hope I can show anyone who doesn’t understand 9/11 your video. Thank you for showing me what it means to be grateful and sorrowful.
