All around the world, countries join in remembering lives lost in Brussels, Belgium. Many were injured and more than 35 people have lost their lives, after a day of violence last week in the city of Brussels.
Brussels is the capital of Belgium, a country in Western Europe with almost the same population as the state of Ohio.
President Obama ordered all American flags in the U.S. to be flown at half-staff, showing respect for the victims. As were flags outside the European Union's headquarters, which is in Brussels. Flying a flag at
half-staff, called half-mast in parts of Europe means that the flag is flying halfway between the top and bottom of the flagpole. In many countries, the act is seen as a symbol of respect, or mourning.
Other countries displayed support and solidarity by displaying the red, yellow and black colors of the Belgium flag, on national monuments.
