Central Ohioans will see another area code added to their region later this month...thanks to an increased demand for new phone numbers, customers who request new service will be assigned the 380 area code, instead of the usual 614.
Ohio determines area codes by regions, so if you live in southeast Ohio, you might have a 740 area code whereas southwest Ohioans are identified by the 513 area code.
With more and more cell phones users, there's only so many options for phone numbers. Officials say Cleveland, Cincinnati and Dayton should expect to go through the same process in the coming years.
Moving on, the Ohio Department of Agriculture says more than 100 historic farms have been added to the state's list during 2015, bringing the total to about 1,200.
The department began recognizing century-old farms in 1993 as part of its historic family farms program and acknowledging farms in existence for at least 200 years since 2013.
The director of the agriculture department said in a recent statement that these farms, which must be owned by the same family for at least 100 years, are the foundation for Ohio's vital agriculture industry.
The oldest Ohio farm is located in Adams County-- and dates back to 1772. It's still with the same family today, the Smiley family - and it's the only Ohio bicentennial farm established prior to our nation's independence.
And finally, the Cincinnati Zoo celebrates their first new arrival of 2016.
A baby penguin, known as a blue or fairy penguin, hatched last Friday. The little guy or girl weighed less than one tenth of a pound. The zoo named the penguin 'Bowie' after the late singer, David Bowie, who passed away over the weekend.
Bowie will join 32 other penguins of its kind at the zoo. They're the smallest breed of penguin in the world.
The cute new arrival joins an already large pack of penguins at the Cincinnati Zoo. In fact, the zoo has the largest colony of little penguins in the United States.
