Ohio Headlines: Eagles Nest Near Playground, Judy Resnik Remembered

STUDENTS AT REDWOOD ELEMENTARY HAVE SOME INTERESTING VISITORS SHARING THEIR PLAYGROUND SPACE...A PAIR OF EAGLES HAVE BUILT A NEST RIGHT OUTSIDE THEIR SCHOOL!

FOURTH GRADER ESTHER MORRIS WROTE IN TO SHARE THE EXCITING NEWS. SHE SENT US THIS PICTURE AND SAYS HER CLASSROOM HAS THE PERFECT VIEW. LOCATED IN AVON LAKE, REDWOOD IS LESS THAN A MILE FROM LAKE ERIE, WHERE BALD EAGLES WERE ONCE PLENTIFUL. AND GET THIS - STUDENTS ARE HAVING A NAMING COMPETITION FOR THEIR NEW VISITORS. I VOTE EINSTEIN AND EILEEN EAGLE... WHAT DO YOU THINK?

IN AKRON, WEDNESDAY WAS A SPECIAL DAY AT JUDITH RESNIK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTER.

RESNIK WAS THE ASTRONAUT FROM AKRON WHO DIED IN THE SPACE SHUTTLE CHALLENGER EXPLOSION, 29 YEARS AGO. ON THE JANUARY 28TH ANNIVERSARY, THE SCHOOL HOLDS A SPECIAL OBSERVANCE. THE FIFTH GRADERS PRESENT A PROGRAM ABOUT HER LIFE, AND THE SCHOOL'S THIRD GRADERS SING THE JUDY RESNIK SONG FOR THE STUDENT BODY.

RESNIK WAS ONLY 36 YEARS OLD WHEN THE ACCIDENT TOOK HER LIFE. SHE GREW UP IN AKRON AND GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL THERE, THEN BECAME A SCIENTIST AND A MISSION SPECIALIST FOR NASA. SHE WAS JUST THE SECOND AMERICAN WOMAN EVER TO JOURNEY INTO SPACE - AND THE CHALLENGER FLIGHT WOULD HAVE BEEN HER SECOND MISSION.
