The city of lights is in mourning this week, as French citizens remember 17 lives that were lost, after a series of terrorist attacks on a French magazine and a supermarket. Leaders from countries all over the globe locked arms with French President Francois Hollande during a unity march.
Unity is "the state of being united or joined - as a whole".
Hundreds of thousands of citizens filled the streets of Paris with flowers and signs. Many of those signs read "Je suis Charlie", which means "I am Charlie". This is the slogan that's been adopted by supporters of free speech and freedom of expression. Charlie Hebdo was the name of the magazine where the attacks happened.
The U.S. ambassador to France attended the unity march in Paris. Boston, Chicago and Washington D.C. were among the American cities that held rallies of support.
