Is help available for renters in Northeast Ohio facing eviction? The short answer is ... some. The Legal Aid Society can help contest an eviction, and in Cuyahoga County, an emergency fund can provide a one-time infusion to make rent current. But the long answer, tenant advocates say, is: Not nearly enough. This morning, we continue our weeklong look at various aspects of eviction by examining what help is available, and what's needed. Our community-wide discussion about eviction comes as a major renter's advocate, the Cleveland Tenant's Organization, has closed for lack of funding. How does that impact the assistance picture? A bit later, an update on efforts to overturn local nuisance laws that can subject domestic violence victims to eviction.
