Catholic Diocese Of Cleveland's New Bishop Talks Hopes And Challenges For Community

While in-person services may be more meager in attendance due to the coronavirus pandemic, faith leaders still have plenty of work cut out for them.

One of the largest faith communities in Northeast of Ohio is the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland, with around 700,000 members. At the helm, is a new leader, looking to guide his congregants through these trying times.

Two weeks back, on Monday, September 14, Bishop Edward Malesic was installed as the 12th bishop, of the Diocese of Cleveland. Malesic takes over for Bishop Nelson Perez, who had led the Cleveland Diocese since 2017, and earlier this year was appointed Archbishop of Philadelphia.

The annoucement of the new leader came in July, with Bishop Malesic expressed his joy and eagerness to shepherd a new flock. In a statement he stated that "Every change in my life has come with new blessings and I cannot wait to see what blessings await me in this diocese, my new home."

Later this hour we'll hear what people of Medina County think about the presidential race, as we are less than 36 hours from the first debate, right here in Cleveland. Multiple Media Producer Gabriel Kramer shares what he's found in his reporting down in Medina County.

Also on the program, we'll talk with author Jack Shuler, who's new book "This Is Ohio: The Overdose Crisis and The Frontlines of A New America", examines how hard the opioid crisis hit the state, especially in the rural regions.
