The head of the violence prevention group Cleveland Peacemakers Alliance has resigned from her post.

Sharyna Cloud took over as director of the Peacemakers in 2016, the first director hired after founder Reggie Rucker was imprisoned for stealing the group’s funds.

Cloud’s role included overseeing 11 outreach workers doing violence prevention work in local communities, as well as four case managers. The Peacemakers have outreach workers stationed at University Hospitals and MetroHealth and in communities throughout the city.

She has not replied to a request for comment.

The violence interrupter model used by Peacemakers seeks to prevent retaliatory shootings by reaching out to survivors and community members and seeking to deescalate in the aftermath of a shooting.

The Peacemakers are part of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Cleveland and have received funding from outside organizations including the City of Cleveland and Cleveland Foundation.

Boys and Girls Clubs President Ron Soeder, said it’s not clear yet whether Cloud was forced to resign or if her position will be filled. He said the board of the Peacemakers is 'continually evaluating' their work to ensure effectiveness.
