The Food and Drug Administration is considering whether to make more prescription drugs available without a prescription after patients consult with a pharmacist. Canada, Australia and several European countries already have this "behind the counter" status for some medication. The American Pharmacists Association is praising this potential shift, but the American Medical Association is staunchly opposed. To help us sort this out, Dr. Charles Emerman is with us.
