Congressman Tim Ryan Will Not Run for Governor

Congressman Tim Ryan [ideastream]

This week, Ohio Congressman Tim Ryan announced he would not run for governor in 2018.  He said he could best serve the people of the state by remaining on Capitol Hill.  The Youngstown Democrat today further explained his decision on 90.3’s the Sound of Ideas.  He said, “it’s not always about another title.”

“I love my job here,” said Ryan.  “And I know governor is an amazing position and a great position, but when you’re looking at what’s going on with Russia and terrorism and ISIS and immigration – these issues are in Washington, DC. And I’ve got a bigger and bigger microphone over the last few years, and I need to use it, I believe, to try to reshape the Democratic party.”

Ryan, who sits on the powerful Appropriations Committee, said he’s gaining seniority in the House and wants to play a leadership role in his party.

Following last November’s election, Ryan unsuccessfully tried to unseat the incumbent House Minority Leader, Nancy Pelosi.
