County Levy Renewals Pass, Kent Will Not be a Sanctuary City

[Elizabeth Miller / ideastream]

Voters were generous to local agencies around Northeast Ohio yesterday.  Here's a look at some of the county-wide levies and city issues on the ballot.

The Cuyahoga County Port Authority, the Geauga County Board of Mental Health, the Lorain County Drug Task Force, and the Summit County Developmental Disabilities Board each received strong support from voters who renewed their tax levies by a wide margin.  A new bond measure for Geauga’s library district struggled to pass but eventually pulled through with 51 percent of the vote.  Cuyahoga voters approved new funding for development at Tri-C and an increase to the Cleveland Public Library levy.

In Summit, nearly 70 percent of voters supported an Akron city charter amendment raising their income tax by one quarter percent for police, fire and roads.  In Portage, Kent voters rejected a proposal to designate the town a sanctuary city.
