The fall arts season is upon us and a slew of arts and culture events are available to put on your to-do list this week, including a film festival featuring people with disabilities and an art exhibit spotlighting Ohio's Guatemalan population. You'll find a mix of events taking place in person and online.
"CRUTCH"
A documentary film about hip-hop artist Bill Shannon who overcame his disability through dance is on view for the ReelAbilities Cleveland Film Festival. A virtual screening is available through September 30 and includes a dance class by Dancing Wheels.
"Burlesco at the 9"
Cleveland burlesque artist Bella Sin returns with her revue " Burlesco at the 9" featuring a hybrid of live and pre-recorded performances. The show starts at 8 p.m. Friday night at the Alex Theater inside the Metropolitan 9 Hotel in downtown Cleveland.
"Conozco Guatemala"
Celebrating its large population of Guatemalan immigrants, the Tuscarawas County Center for the Arts hosts the exhibition "Conozco Guatemala" through October 9. The exhibit opens Saturday from 2-4 p.m. with a celebration of authentic food, music and textile weaving demonstrations.
Mo' Mojo
Tuesday Musical takes audiences on a musical trip to Louisiana with Northeast Ohio zydeco band Mo' Mojo for its Passport 2021 world music series. Two concerts take place Sunday at 1 and 3 p.m. on the lawn outside the Barder House in Akron.
"Modern Warrior LIVE"
The National Veterans Film Festival presents " Modern Warrior LIVE" a music and spoken word production featuring Cleveland trumpeter Dominick Farinacci and U.S. Army Veteran Jaymes Poling. The show detailing Poling's journey back home is screening virtually through Sunday, September 26.
