If you haven't visited the arts institutions of University Circle since the pandemic hit, here are five virtual events that bring University Circle to you this week.
Cleveland Museum of Art
The performing arts department at CMA has produced a series of musical conversations called " Behind the Beat." Tom Welsh, CMA director of performing arts, speaks with international composers such as Cenk Ergun and Aleksandra Vrebalov, pairing them with musicians like the JACK Quartet and Kronos Quartet.
Cleveland Museum of Natural History
The Natural History Museum's annual " Explorer Lecture Series," which spotlights leading figures in scientific discovery, is now virtual. Dr. Dawn Wright, chief scientist at the Environmental Systems Research Institute speaks on advances in mapping technology Friday, October 16, at 7 p.m.
Cleveland Institute of Music
CIM presents the "Kulas Virtual Artist Series" featuring performances by institute students and faculty from Mixon and Kulas Halls. Institute voice student Jiayin Shi performs his First Master of Music Recital live Saturday, October 17 at 5:30 p.m. on CIM's Vimeo channel.
Cleveland Orchestra
The orchestra's " In Focus" series premieres this week bringing performances to audiences through the Adella video streaming service. Episode one premieres Thursday, October 15, at 7 p.m., with music director Franz Welser-Most leading the orchestra in works by Respighi, Walker and Tchaikovsky.
Western Reserve Historical Society
The Western Reserve Historical Society hosts the video series "Crime in Cleveland" featuring colorful and scandalous stories of infamous criminals from Northeast Ohio. Learn about Mrs. Cassie Chadwick, Velma West and Dr. Sam Sheppard via the WRHS website.
