1568 Adriano Banchieri – Italian composer, music theorist, organist and poet of the late Renaissance and early Baroque eras (d.1634); founded the Accademia dei Floridi in Bologna; became a monk of the Benedictine order, taking his vows in 1590.
1695 Pietro Locatelli – Italian composer and violinist (d.1764); spent time as a travelling virtuoso in Italy and Germany, arriving in Amsterdam in 1729; he spent the rest of his life in that center of European music publishing, meticulously editing and overseeing the publication of his music.
1891 Marcel Grandjany – French-born American harpist and composer (d.1975); head of the Harp Department at Juilliard 1938-1975 except for some years in the '40s while on the faculty of the Conservatoire de musique du Québec in Montreal; helped found the American Harp Society in 1962.
1897 Francisco Mignone – Brazilian composer (d.1986); one of the most significant Brazilian composers after Heitor Villa-Lobos.
