A gunman opens fire in a crowded Colorado theater, killing 12 innocent people, injuring 58. A student brings a gun to school in Chardon, opening fire in the cafeteria: Three students lay dead. As rare as these public bursts of gun violence may be -- we go to school and the movies all the time without incident -- crimes like these strike a deep chord.
