Calling All Astronauts!

Calling all wanna-be astronauts! NASA is looking for a few good men and women for future space missions.

"I'm Charlie Bolden.  NASA is on a journey to Mars, and we're recruiting the next generation of space pioneers.  Think you've got what it takes?  We want you to apply for NASA's astronaut program."

NASA went into more detail on Instagram and Twitter with the hashtag "be an astronaut."

The agency says it selects qualified astronaut candidates from what it calls a "diverse pool of U.S. citizens with a wide variety of backgrounds." NASA currently has 47 active astronauts, and they haven't recruited new trainees in four years.

The new astronaut teams would eventually be considered for deep space missions and become part the future plan to send humans to mars.

NASA is expected to announce its newest astronaut candidates sometime in 2017.

Let us know, do you have what it takes to become an astronaut? Tell us why you would be a good candidate for NASA’s program. Perhaps you work well in small groups or you have great attention to detail. Tell us what qualities you have that would help in outer space and we'll show some of our favorite responses on next week's show.
