Cities collect their own local income taxes or contract with organizations like the Regional Income Tax Agency. But the state wants businesses to have the option of paying local taxes directly to the state. The fragmented local taxing structure, they claim, is too complex. Cities say it's another encroachment on "home rule" rights. Two lawsuits have been filed against the state. We'll discuss the issue on The Sound of Ideas.
