America's regional theaters are often the birthplaces of new work, where playwrights and actors can hone their skills, far from the glare of Broadway. This season, the place credited by many as America's first regional theater is celebrating its one hundredth birthday. The Cleveland Play House has weathered two world wars, the Depression and, most recently, the Great Recession, and always found a way to keep the lights on, as ideastream's David C. Barnett reports.
