Petting Zoo: Ducklings Take Field Trip Through School

No hall pass needed! Students at Eisenhower Elementary School in Minnesota look forward to a very special event at the end of each school year - a parade of baby ducks through their school!

Their courtyard is home to a momma duck who lays her eggs in the enclosed space. Once the ducklings are big enough to be on their way, they have to waddle their way through the school.

This is because while ducklings are able to swim and walk as soon as they hatch, they aren’t old enough to fly. At around 50 to 60 days old, they finally have the strength and the feathers they need to soar, according to the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds!
