Your Answers: What factors should determine who gets a vaccine first?

We learned who the United Kingdom and the United States plan to vaccinate first, now we want to know: What factors should determine who gets a vaccine first?

“I think the vaccine should be given to people who are closer to having COVID-19 so they could be prevented from getting COVID and also older people should have the vaccine first because they have slower immune systems that is why I think people closer to COVID and older people should have the vaccine.”
-Leilani from Boulevard Elementary in Cleveland Heights

"I think that the nurses should get the vaccine first because they are the people that are always exposed to Covid-19. They are always around people in the hospitable and are always taking care of people in the hospitable. If they got it first it would make them feel more safe and their family. That is why I think the nurses in hospitals should get the vaccine first."
-Tessa from Memorial Elementary in Brunswick

“I think that the oldest people should get it first because they are the most vulnerable. Then, the essential workers should get it. Finally, the rest of the people will get it.”
-Owen from Academy of Saint Bartholomew in Middleburg Heights

“I think that the way they should determine who gets the vaccine is by who needs it more. A person who doesn't have a home should get it first because if they live on the street, then they are near people a lot.”
-Christian from Beverly Center Elementary School in Beverly

“Some factors that I think that should determine the first people to get the vaccines are age, healthcare workers and location. We know that COVID-19 affects the elderly more significantly. I also think it is important that healthcare workers get the vaccine so they can continue helping the sick without putting themselves at too much risk. I think that location should be a factor because people in areas where COVID-19 is common can get the vaccine to protect themselves and others. Those are some factors I think should determine the first to get a vaccine.”
-Matthew from Geneva Middle School in Geneva
