We learned about lots of amazing Ohio veterans, now we want you to write to us: Tell us about a veteran in your life!
“My grandpa was in the Army before I was born. We love to get donuts, play ping pong and go tubing because my grandparents live on Lake Erie. My family and I also swim when we are there. He made so many sacrifices, and that’s why there is a Veterans Day! So everyone should take part in thanking veterans or even make small sacrifices themselves. That way, we can understand a little better about how much veterans do for us!”
-Kinley from Sacred Heart School in Wadsworth
“Veterans in my life are my stepdad's brother and his girlfriend. They were both in the military. My stepdad's brother served in a war. His girlfriend was a war nurse. They both go back there when needed, but are sometimes on break. So, I have two extended family members in the military: one who actually serves and another who helps wounded people in the war!”

“My veteran is my great-grandpa. He served in the Navy when he got out of college for four to five years. He then moved to the Army and worked there for a while. When he was in the Navy, he was part of the Yellow Jackets and the Seahawks. He is still alive today, and when we see him, he tells us stories about his life working in the military. He was also in the Vietnam War. I appreciate him very much.”
-Isabelle from Lake Local School District in Hartville
“Veterans Day is a day to honor all who have served in our military. For me, I have two grandparents who are veterans. I am not quite sure which wars and battles that they served in, but I do know that whatever they did I am proud. I am so happy that I have veterans in my family because it shows me that they love our country and are willing to die for our freedom and rights. I am also happy that I have a veteran in my family because I know that they love the country as much as they love me.”
-Dublyn from Claggett Middle School in Medina
“One veteran in my life is my Uncle Terrance. He served in the Gulf War from 1990-1991. His branch was the Army. He served four active years and four inactive years. My Uncle Terrance was also awarded a few medals. I wanted to share this because I thought it would be important for anyone who wanted to know some of the things veterans have done. I also wanted people to hear about my Uncle Terrance. I'm grateful for all veterans in America. I'm also thankful for our troops who are currently serving in our country.”
