NOW BEFORE WE GO; WE’VE GOT AN A PLUS TO HAND OUT!
WE WANT TO RECOGNIZE A GROUP OF STUDENTS WHO WON THE TEAM COMPETITION FOR 1ST THROUGH 6TH GRADERS AT NASA GLENN’S ANNUAL YOUNG ASTRONAUT DAY ON OCTOBER 28.
THE TEAM IS A GROUP OF HOMESCHOOLERS FROM TWINSBURG, AND MEMBERS RANGE IN AGES FROM 7 TO 11 YEARS OLD.
THEIR NAMES ARE RILEY, MAGGIE, NOLAN, JAMES, ABBIE, WILLIAM, AND JULIA.
THEY CALL THEMSELVES THE MASTER BUILDERS, AND THAT’S BECAUSE THEY ALL LOVE TO BUILD! THEIR LOVE OF BUILDING STARTED WITH LEGOS, AND IT HAS BLOSSOMED INTO FURTHER INTEREST IN ENGINEERING AND EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN. SO YOUNG ASTRONAUT DAY WAS RIGHT UP THEIR ALLEY!
EACH OF THE THREE CHALLENGES THEY COMPETED IN WERE DESIGNED TO EXPLORE THE NATURE OF FLIGHT AND TO SHOW THE REAL-LIFE APPLICATION OF SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, AND MATH.
IN ADDITION TO WINNING THE TEAM COMPETITION, THEY WERE RECOGNIZED FOR SHOWING THE “NASA SPIRIT” BECAUSE THEY TESTED THEIR PARACHUTE MORE TIMES THAN ANY OTHER TEAM, AND MODIFIED THEIR DESIGN OVER AND OVER AGAIN TO KEEP MAKING IT BETTER.
THEY EVEN GOT TO MEET A REAL-LIVE NASA ASTRONAUT!
THE MASTER BUILDERS ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO ENTERING MORE SCIENCE COMPETITIONS THIS YEAR - BECAUSE THEY SAY SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING IS JUST PLAIN FUN, AND THEY ENJOY WORKING AND LEARNING TOGETHER AS A HOMESCHOOL GROUP.
IT SURE IS GREAT TO SEE A GROUP OF KIDS WITH DIFFERENT AGES AND ABILITIES COME TOGETHER TO SOLVE SOME COOL CHALLENGES. THAT’S WHY WE’RE GIVING THE MASTER BUILDERS, THIS WEEK’S NEWSDEPTH A-PLUS!
