THOUSANDS OF AMERICAN CASUALTIES FROM WORLD WAR ONE ARE BURIED IN ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY – A LARGE MILITARY CEMETERY IN VIRGINIA. AND, LAST WEEK FORMER ASTRONAUT AND AMERICAN ICON JOHN GLENN WAS ALSO LAID TO REST THERE. GLENN’S PIONEERING MERCURY FLIGHT IN 1962 MADE HIM AN INSTANT NATIONAL HERO. HE BECAME THE OLDEST MAN IN SPACE WHEN HE RETURNED ABOARD THE SPACE SHUTTLE DISCOVERY IN 1998 AT AGE 77. GLENN ALSO REPRESENTED OHIO IN THE U-S SENATE FOR 24 YEARS. SENATOR GLENN DIED DECEMBER 8 TH, BUT, UNTIL THIS WEEK, HIS CASKET HAD BEEN DISPLAYED AT THE OHIO STATEHOUSE, WHERE IT WAS VISITED BY THOUSANDS OF MOURNERS.
