Let's do some sports this week, featuring a couple of middle school football teams. One plays in Kirtland, in Lake County, and the other school is only about 15 miles away in Chagrin Falls.
The Kirtland team has a huge fan, their assistant, who has disabilities and was never allowed to play the game he loves. But he worked for the team for three seasons and never missed a practice, meeting, or game.
Last week, his coach asked the Chagrin coach if it would be okay to let him carry the ball, one time.... and to tackle him "gently".
But watch what happens... As the Chagrin Falls players decided that Nathan Fellinger deserved a better experience. And while they didn't stop playing, they somehow never could make the tackle, and Nathan got away... with his brother blocking for him down the field for a 40 yard touchdown.
It cost Chagrin the game, but they told a reporter that they were "happier about losing that way, than if we had won."
That’s special sportsmanship. And while they lost the game, they win this week's NewsDepth A+. Way to go guys!
