The social network, Facebook, is one step closer to beaming internet from space!
They’re teaming up with a French satellite company, and hope to launch a satellite that will provide internet access to people in sub-Saharan Africa.
The satellite will launch next year with service set to start sometime in 2016. It will reach 14 countries in Western, Eastern, and Southern Africa, bringing free internet to rural areas, using satellites, lasers and drones.
The plan is to get the next billion people around the world online. The program has already connected people in nearly 20 countries to the net.
