Ohio Headlines: Homeless Awareness Sleepout, College Receives Anonymous Donation, QB Stays in School

A GROUP OF TEENS LEAVE THE COMFORT OF THEIR HOMES TO EXPERIENCE THE LIFE OF THOSE WHO HAVE NOWHERE TO GO.

A CARDBOARD BOX AND A BLANKET IS ALL THE SHELTER MEMBERS OF THE YOUTH FELLOWSHIP HAD WHEN THEY SLEPT ON THE FRONT STEPS OF LAKEWOOD CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH ON A COLD JANUARY NIGHT EARLIER THIS WEEK. AFTER PANHANDLING LATE INTO THE EVENING, THE TEENS RAISED OVER 6,000 DOLLARS. ALL MONEY RAISED WILL BE DONATED TO LOCAL HOMELESS SHELTERS IN CLEVELAND.

THIS EVENT WAS AIMED AT RAISING AWARENESS AND SUPPORT FOR THE DIFFICULTIES FACING HOMELESS INDIVIDUALS IN NORTHEAST OHIO. IT WAS THE 11TH YEAR FOR THE HOMELESS AWARENESS SLEEPOUT.

AFTER A THREE YEAR SHUTDOWN, THINGS ARE LOOKING UP FOR A SMALL OHIO COLLEGE.

ANTIOCH COLLEGE IN YELLOW SPRINGS, OHIO, HAS RECEIVED AN ANONYMOUS GIFT FOR MORE THAN ONE MILLION DOLLARS. SCHOOL OFFICIALS SAY THE DONATION WILL BE USED TO FUND FULL SCHOLARSHIPS FOR FIRST-GENERATION COLLEGE STUDENTS, OR STUDENTS WHO ARE THE FIRST IN THEIR FAMILY TO EVER GET A BACHELOR'S DEGREE AT A FOUR-YEAR COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY.

THE SCHOLARSHIPS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS ENTERING THE COLLEGE THIS FALL; HOWEVER, ANTIOCH OFFICIALS AREN'T SURE HOW MANY SCHOLARSHIPS WILL RESULT FROM THE DONATION.

IT'S NOT THE MOST COMMON DECISION, WHICH IS WHY IT'S CREATING QUITE A STIR IN THE SPORTS WORLD.

OHIO STATE QUARTERBACK CARDALE JONES CREATED A LOT OF HYPE OVER A SIMPLE DECISION WHEN HE HELD A PRESS CONFERENCE LAST WEEK TO ANNOUNCE HIS PLANS FOR THE UPCOMING YEAR. CONTRARY TO WHAT MANY PEOPLE THOUGHT HE'D CHOOSE, JONES DECIDED TO RETURN TO SCHOOL AT OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY AND CONTINUE TO PLAY FOR THE BUCKEYES.

THE 22-YEAR-OLD SAYS HE WANTS TO FINISH SCHOOL BEFORE ENTERING THE NFL, WHICH WOULD MAKE HIM THE FIRST IN HIS FAMILY TO RECEIVE A COLLEGE DEGREE.
