Northern White Rhino Population Drops to 5

We told you two weeks ago about the effort to save endangered rhinoceroses, but now we have learned that the most rare species of the animal, is much closer to extinction. A northern white rhino has died at a San Diego zoo.

This was Angalifu, who was 44 years old when he died Sunday. Now there are only five northern white rhinos left on the entire planet.

Much of that is because of poaching, which has pushed the northern white rhino to the brink of extinction. Many cultures believe the rhino horn has medicinal value.

The San Diego Zoo has one other white rhino. Her name is Nola.
