An upstander: a person who speaks or acts in support of an individual or cause, particularly someone who intervenes on behalf of a person being attacked or bullied.
In each choice we make, we decide the question of how we want to be in the world and how we want the world to be for ourselves and others. Our choices—big or small—create the experiences of others and ourselves. An upstander makes a choice that choice makes the world a better place.
This is the second annual City Club Youth Forum for elementary school students, examining how the power of our lives and how our choices can make the world a better place. Panelists will discuss how they have been upstanders in their professional and personal lives and how ultimately their choices have shaped the experience of others and our communities.
Panelists include:
Honey Bell-Bey, Poet/activist and Founder, The Distinguished Gentlemen of Spoken Word
Donte Gibbs, Director of Youth Engagement, Neighborhood Leadership Institute, and 2017 Fellow, The George Gund Foundation
Honorable Gayle Williams-Byers, Judge, South Euclid Municipal Court
The panel is moderated by Anthony Price, 2015 Gates Millennium Scholarship winner and founder of Be the Change Venture.
