Jimmy Kuehnle

Jimmy Kuehnle's massive, newest work began in his small home studio space

A giant inflatable sculpture has invaded the Akron Art Museum’s Corbin Gallery.  This red behemoth is sort of a cross between a bouncy house and a carnival fun house, and it pulses with dozens of blinking lights.  This whimsical work is the creation of Cleveland Institute of Art professor Jimmy Kuehnle, whose art has filled galleries across the country.  This newest one is called “Wiggle, Giggle, Jiggle”, and it was assembled in a small work space in the artist’s suburban Cleveland home.  That’s where ideastream’s Senior Arts reporter David C. Barnett found him several weeks ago, sitting behind a sewing machine, stitching together hundreds of yards of red nylon fabric.
