Petting Zoo: Deaf and Blind Dog Teaches Importance of Inclusion

Melissa Shapiro agreed to foster a blind and deaf dog named Piglet in 2017. But fostering just wasn’t enough, they decided to adopt!

Piglet’s unique characteristics are the result of both of her parents being dapple. That means their fur pattern is a mix of light and dark brown splotches. Piglet was born “double dapple” which often is linked to vision and hearing problems.

Melissa and Piglet aren’t letting those differences stop the pup from living a fun and full life. Melissa has helped Piglet to learn to face challenges and in return Piglet is teaching kids across the country to do the same! You can learn more about Piglet on his website.
