A Plastic Problem

RECYCLING KEEPS TRASH OUT OF LANDFILLS – AND OUT OF OUR OCEANS, WHICH IS A GREAT THING, BECAUSE THIS KIND OF POLLUTION IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM.  SCIENTISTS ESTIMATE EIGHT MILLION TONS OF PLASTIC WASTE IS THROWN INTO THE WORLD'S OCEANS --- EVERY YEAR... AND COUNTLESS ANIMALS PAY THE PRICE FOR ALL THAT POLLUTION.
THE MOST DISTURBING IMAGES COME FROM MIDWAY ISLAND – THAT’S AN ISLAND IN THE NORTH PACIFIC OCEAN, NEAR HAWAII. IT’S BEEN CALLED “PLASTIC ISLAND” BECAUSE IT’S BLANKETED WITH GARBAGE. IN FACT, EVERY SINGLE ALBATROSS ON THE ISLAND WILL LIKELY DIE WITH A STOMACH FULL OF IT. UP NEXT, NICK PATON WALSH HAS A SPECIAL REPORT FROM THIS PACIFIC ISLAND- ‘HAUNTED’ BY PLASTIC.
