Good morning, iOpeners. It's Wednesday, August 14, 2019. This is the last iOpener for a while, as we address a few production issues. We also want to incorporate your suggestions on what kind of news you’d like us to highlight (More arts? Less weather?).  Please tell us how we can serve you better.  Contact us at comments@ideastream.org. If you want to be alerted when we re-launch the iOpener, sign up for our midday newsletter, Noon(ish). We'll let you know there.

The University of Akron is expected to announce its next president today, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. Its board of trustees meets this morning. The school’s new leader will immediately have to take on UA’s controversial reorganization effort, which was launched to address declining enrollment.  It was put on hold this spring until a new president was chosen.

Yost said the state will have three new testing machines in place by the end of the year. Until then, he said he’s set aside $50,000 to reimburse local law enforcement for the cost of THC testing at a private lab.

Euclid’s schools will open Thursday with renewed questions about who will lead the district. Superintendent Dr. Marvin Jones resigned, effective Monday, after a little over one year in the position. Jones’ wife, Kanika, also resigned from her administrative role with the schools. The search for a new superintendent will be the fifth one for the Euclid school district in as many years.

The Ohio State University wants to trademark the word “The” when used with the school’s name on saleable goods like t-shirts and caps. Ohio State submitted a trademark application on Aug. 8. A spokesman said the school works “vigorously” to protect its brand.

The Cleveland Indians overcame a five-run deficit only to fall in extra innings to the Red Sox, 7-6, at Progressive Field. It was a historic night for Boston.  Rafael Devers became the first player in major league history with six hits, four of them doubles.   But it was Jackie Bradley Jr.’s home run in the top of the 10 th that gave the Red Sox the victory,
