The latest E. coli outbreak linked to romaine lettuce continues, as scientists work to discover more about the source of the contamination. In a report released Wednesday, the Centers for Disease Control and Preventionannounced 29 states have reported 149 cases of E. coli since mid-March, the largest outbreak since 2006. Florida, Minnesota, North Dakota and Texas are the latest states to report illnesses. At least one person has died. In Ohio, three illnesses have been linked to the outbreak.
Scientists have identified a link to romaine lettuce grown in the Yuma, Arizona region. Experts say to use caution when eating romaine lettuce and to try to avoid it entirely, unless you know where it was grown.
