At its annual State of the Clinic address, Northeast Ohio’s largest employer reported several projects and expansions to Cleveland Clinic hospitals around the world.
As part of a partnership with Case Western Reserve University, the Clinic is in the midst of building a new medical school. Although the project was originally scheduled to open this year, Cleveland Clinic CEO Dr. Toby Cosgrove says the $515 million health education campus will instead open in two years.
Other construction projects include expansions in Akron, Avon, and Florida. Across the pond, the Clinic purchased a building in London, which Cosgrove says will become a hospital.
“We think London represents an opportunity from a financial standpoint, from a brand recognition standpoint, and an opportunity to tap into the huge talent pool that is representative in London," said Cosgrove.
And a newly completed hospital in Abu Dhabi is getting lots of business, according to Cosgrove.
“The building is already active with over 53,000 outpatient visits, 3,000 surgeries, and patients coming from 34 different countries,” said Cosgrove.
The Clinic’s operating income for 2015 increased 3%, to $481 million.
