Third Federal Foundation along with the Marc A. and Rhonda L. Stefanski Foundation announced a $5 million donation today to ensure space at a new health campus is dedicated to educating future doctors about the health disparities in Cleveland's neighborhoods.
The Rhonda and Marc Stefanski Center for Community Health Education will be put into the first floor of a building on East 93rd Street. It will be the new home for the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine and Case Western Reserve University's School of Medicine.
Case Medical School Dean Pamela Davis says the donation will provide a base for the school's community programs such as one focused on health disparities and another that provides outreach into the Cleveland schools.
"The best part of the space is where there are desks for students to work and comfortable chairs grouped so the students can talk about what they are thinking about in terms of community health, wellness and how you take what you really love to do and translate it into something practical," Davis says.
Construction on the building is expected to begin next month and be completed in 2019.
