Around noon today, Beth Cerrano-Berry, Amanda's sister, came out to reporters accompanied by police officers, and read the following statement:
“I just want to say we are so happy to have Amanda and her daughter home. I want to thank the public and the media for their support and their courage over the years, and at this time our family would request privacy, so my sister and niece and I can have time to recover.
"We appreciate all you have done for us throughout the past ten years. Please respect our privacy until we are ready to make our statements. And thank you.”
Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight were all freed from the house of Ariel Castro Monday night, roughly three miles from where they were abducted over the course of 11 years.
Castro and his two brothers, Pedro and Onil, are in custody and are expected to face charges of kidnapping, assault, and possibly rape.
Berry also has a six-year-old daughter, birthed while she was in captivity.
