What's your image of a hospital room? A couple of beds, bare walls, maybe a small TV set? That traditional idea of a hospital room could become a thing of the past. Hospitals built in the 1960's and 70's were functional, boxy structures. But new architecture is taking into account the needs of the patients who stay in them, and the professionals who work in them. A well designed hospital, writes, Ellen Kleinerman, leads to happier and healthier patients and saves money on healthcare costs.
