Even though they're on break, lawmakers are making moves and drawing up plans on what to do with the budget when they return. Statehouse correspondent Andy Chow talked to one chairman about his plans on some higher education provisions.
The House subcommittee on higher education has held meetings for several weeks now, and the chair, Republican State Rep. Mike Duffey of Worthington, said there are several things he'd like to bring to the table—stabilization to the Ohio College Opportunity Grant and improvements to the College Credit Plus program to name a few.
As for tuition caps, Duffey said that's something the caucus would like to address, in his words, "aggressively." He added that he'd like to see a more general approach to the total cost of attending college.
"So a rec center fee, for example, a lab fee, if those are going up at the same time we're freezing tuition and the institution is still able to get the money on the back end," he said, "are they just circumventing our caps our not?"
The House plans to introduce a revised budget bill next week.
