Democratic Lawmakers Say They Oppose Changes To Education Reforms Now In Place

Some democratic State lawmakers are urging majority republicans in the Ohio house and senate to reject a bill that would eliminate some educational reforms approved by Governor Strickland and democrats just a couple of years ago. State Representative Denise Driehaus says she and other democratic lawmakers think components of the existing education reform are significant. She says take the mandate for all day kindergarten for example."Group after group, study after study, has found that kindergarten is vital in the education of our young people," she says. "All day kindergarten gives them a foundation for a better education which will lead to better jobs and a stronger Ohio."

The lawmakers say the current education process is based on outcomes. The legislators fear moving away from that basis would make Ohio’s school children less competitive in the future.
