The view from the Idea Center
I’ve got two relocations to talk about. Neither of them involves moving to a place where it’s sunny and warm – a dream I’m personally entertaining on this cloudy, cold day in Cleveland.
One of the moves is a short one, just across Downtown Cleveland. The Cleveland International Film Festival (CIFF) next year is moving from Tower City Cinemas, located in the depths of Tower City Mall at the base of Terminal Tower, to the theaters of Playhouse Square.
It will be the festival’s third move since its founding in 1977. CIFF Executive Director Marcie Goodman told ideastream’s David C. Barnett that Playhouse Square will be the festival’s “forever home.”
CIFF is relocating because the future of Tower City Cinemas is up in the air. The landlord of the mall, Bedrock, is planning major renovations.
I’ll be talking with David tomorrow on “Morning Edition” about CIFF’s move and the implications for Playhouse Square and its theatrical schedule.
The other move is the one Nelson Perez, Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Cleveland, is making to Philadelphia. Pope Francis appointed Perez to be the next Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, where he will be in charge of “one of the largest Catholic infrastructures in the United States,” according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. He’ll be installed Feb. 18.
Perez is familiar with Philly. He attended seminary and was ordained there, and he served as pastor of two parishes. He said he’s filled with “great joy” for the opportunity to serve Philadelphia, but sad that he’ll be leaving “the incredible people in Northeast Ohio.”
I’m not going anywhere, even though I found a $101 round-trip flight to Miami next week on Expedia.
I’ll see you, swaddled in a sweater, tomorrow morning on the radio,
Amy Eddings
